Should I Pick a BAK or EXTANG Tonneau Cover for a 2018 Ford F150?

RSS

F-150 Owner: I was calling in and looking into a tonneau cover.

Shawn: What kind of tonneau cover are you looking at?

F-150 Owner: Well I was looking at that BAKFlip, the four segment one. Forgot what it was called. The matte black one.

Shawn: Okay, what kind of truck do you have?

F-150 Owner: I have a 2018 Ford F150. 5 foot 7 bed.

Shawn: Did you want to go ahead and place an order with me today on it?

F-150 Owner: Well, I was kind of looking. You guys have an elephant or one listed that you guys have just come out with?

Shawn: You know it didn't last very long.

F-150 Owner: Got you. Okay, yeah, because I was kind of poking around. The BAKFlips are, every review I looked at, the BAKFlip was up there, but I kept reading that they leak. And I was wondering if there's another one out there that would be comparable that doesn't leak or is that just inherent in that style.

Shawn: Well to prevent leaking you have to have the tonneau cover installed correctly and have all the seals laying like they should. You also will have the drain tubes. Just don't expect there to be no water whatsoever because it's not weather proof, it's weather resistant. If you wan't something that will stay drier, you're going to have to go with on top of the rails and I would suggest the extang that's Extang Solid Fold 2.0. It sits on top of the rails.

F-150 Owner: Okay. Well, that sounds good. Let me keep looking around at some other tonneau covers

Shawn: Alright man, check that out. Look at that solid fold. They are both really popular, they're owned by the same company. Kind of got to go with what you want in look and then what you want in functionality. That's just the honest opinion I have for you on those two.

F-150 Owner: You just said that. Okay, let me take a look at them and I'll give you a holler back.
