Are There Any Folding Tonneau Covers for a GMC Sierra That Are Water Resistant?
GMC Sierra Owner: I have a folding tonneau cover now. Do you recommend any other covers? I mean, mine leaks. The water doesn't bother me so much, but I'm just curious if there are any other folding covers that might be better and also easy to install.
Sean: Well, I just want to pre-warn you that I was actually with Undercover for a decade and they bought BAKFlip and a lot of tonneau cover companies that are actually owned by the same company, which Truck Hero. It's the name they're owned under, and folding covers are as far as water goes, the Achilles heel of the industry. We've done everything from different rivets, screws, seals, gluing, processes, everything. Unfortunately, on a folding cover, you're not able to keep 100% of the water out. Now, there are things in place with the drain tubes and the rails are channeled like a gutter, it's supposed to push the water to the drain tube and out the head if the rain tubes are installed properly. Which is going to unfortunately, require either some cutting if you have those little black plastic caps in the front of your bed, or some drilling if you don't, in order for those drain tubes to get out of the bed, so that's going to be the toughest part of the installation right there. The rest of it you're going to get two rails and eight clamps, you're going to have four clamps on the other side. Then the cover actually comes with elevator bolts and star knobs so essentially you sit the cover down on your bed, you go to the very front close to the window, put the elevator bolts through, and then from the underside you screw the star knobs on and your cover's installed, so that's as easy as it is. Well, I'm not very mechanically inclined and I've done about 50 of them, so.
GMC Sierra Owner: Well that means you know what you're doing.
Sean: Now I do.GMC Sierra Owner: Do you recommend any other covers? I mean, the water doesn't bother me, mine when it's down, my bed is running water.
Sean: That's a little crazy there. As far as the look goes, the MX4 is going to be right there. If you didn't care about the low profile and sitting between your truck bed rails and you wanted something more that's going to sit on top of the rails, I would have you check out the Extang, and that's the Solid Fold. That one sits on top of the rails, but that allows less water intrusion, it folds the same way. It does not fold up against the back window. So you can't have the cover all the way open when you drive but you can have two panels open if you need to hold something tall. The good part about the Solid Fold is, it's cheaper, and it does not come with a separate rail system. At the front of the bed, at the very front panel toward the glass, you're going to have these two knobs that come down and it has a little lip on it, you loosen it enough so you can get that lip underneath your side rail, and then you clamp it shut. You do that on either side and that's how it secures it to the truck. When you fold it all the way down, the rear-end has sort of the same thing, except for those are spring-loaded, so you can tighten them wherever you need to. Let's say it's a little loose, so you just grab that handle, twist it, which will tighten it, and once it has that lip on there, and you clamp it over, it'll pull it down towards the bed.GMC Sierra Owner: Oh, my goodness. So you have a little less water?
Sean: Correct. Anything that's going to sit on top of the rails, as a rule of thumb, you're going to have less water intrusion. Fewer opportunities for it to get in there.GMC Sierra Owner: I'm still open to what you're saying. I'm just going to go transfer some money into my account and I'll call you back.

How Do I Confirm That I Received The Correct Part Number For an Extang Solid Fold 2.0 for a 2019 Ford F-150?
Tonneau Covered Customer: You sent me a Tonneau Cover last week. But unfortunately I think it's the wrong one. Can you help me confirm the part number?
Peter: It was an Extang Solid Fold 2.0, correct?Tonneau Covered Customer: Correct. . It was an Extang Solid Fold 2.0 for a 2019 Ford F-150 with a six and a half foot bed.
Peter: Okay. Let me double check here.Tonneau Covered Customer: I went up and looked at Extang's website and it's something like 83418 but they sent me a 84418.
Peter: So the part number should actually be 84480.Tonneau Covered Customer: I looked on their website and I think it's supposed to be 83480, because the one that they sent me is for a toolbox. So it's only like five foot three, something like that.
Peter: Oh, I see. It was a toolbox Tonneau but you don't have a toolbox, that's what you're saying?Tonneau Covered Customer: Correct. I do not have a toolbox
Peter: Okay. Customer service will be in in about an hour. We're going to get this swapped out for you, obviously for free. This is our mistake and we're going to get the correct one on the way and we're going to get a return shipping label for that one. Keep an eye on your email. You'll be hearing from them shortly and once again, I apologize.Tonneau Covered Customer: Fortunately, I didn't destroy the box opening it, so it's already packed. But I don't have the plastic strapping materials, so asking for recommendations on getting that box sealed up well, right. I used packing tape, but I don't think that would hold it completely. Get some recommendations from him on what I can do to make sure that it gets back there in one piece.
Peter: Okay, will do. Yeah, they're good at that and you'll be hearing from them shortly.
Should I Pick a BAK or EXTANG Tonneau Cover for a 2018 Ford F150?
F-150 Owner: I was calling in and looking into a tonneau cover.
Shawn: What kind of tonneau cover are you looking at?F-150 Owner: Well I was looking at that BAKFlip, the four segment one. Forgot what it was called. The matte black one.
Shawn: Okay, what kind of truck do you have?F-150 Owner: I have a 2018 Ford F150. 5 foot 7 bed.
Shawn: Did you want to go ahead and place an order with me today on it?F-150 Owner: Well, I was kind of looking. You guys have an elephant or one listed that you guys have just come out with?
Shawn: You know it didn't last very long.F-150 Owner: Got you. Okay, yeah, because I was kind of poking around. The BAKFlips are, every review I looked at, the BAKFlip was up there, but I kept reading that they leak. And I was wondering if there's another one out there that would be comparable that doesn't leak or is that just inherent in that style.
Shawn: Well to prevent leaking you have to have the tonneau cover installed correctly and have all the seals laying like they should. You also will have the drain tubes. Just don't expect there to be no water whatsoever because it's not weather proof, it's weather resistant. If you wan't something that will stay drier, you're going to have to go with on top of the rails and I would suggest the extang that's Extang Solid Fold 2.0. It sits on top of the rails.F-150 Owner: Okay. Well, that sounds good. Let me keep looking around at some other tonneau covers
Shawn: Alright man, check that out. Look at that solid fold. They are both really popular, they're owned by the same company. Kind of got to go with what you want in look and then what you want in functionality. That's just the honest opinion I have for you on those two.F-150 Owner: You just said that. Okay, let me take a look at them and I'll give you a holler back.
