What's the Difference Between the Revolver X2 and X4 for a 2018 Ford F150 SOP SuperCrew?
F150 Owner: You sent me an email and said that you have a good price on a tonneau cover for me, so I thought well let's take a look.Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay what truck is it for?
F150 Owner: It's a 2018 Ford F150 SOP SuperCrew.Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay, and which cover are you looking at?
F150 Owner: The Revolver X2 I think it was. I'm kind of torn between the X4 and the X2.Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay. The X4 is only $20 more. It's free shipping and there's no sales tax if you're ordering from outside of Arizona.
F150 Owner: Okay. What's the difference between the X2 and X4?Tonneau Covered Agent: Just the finish on top. The X2 is shiny . The X4 is a matte, black finish on top.
F150 Owner: So the X2 it kind has a soft, leathery look?Tonneau Covered Agent: Right.
F150 Owner: Okay. Is the X4 soft or is it a hard?Tonneau Covered Agent: Yeah, it's soft. I mean it's got the aluminum slating underneath, but it's soft on the top. It's just more of a dull, matte black.
F150 Owner: Oh, but other than that they're pretty much the same huh?Tonneau Covered Agent: Right.
F150 Owner: Okay. But one's not going to hold up better than the other?Tonneau Covered Agent: No, they're going to hold up the same.
F150 Owner: Okay. Yeah, I'd kind of looked at both of the covers. Alright, cool. I'm just going to think about it a little longer.Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay. No problem.
What's the Best Retractable Cover For a Ford 2018 Model Crew Cab?
Ford Owner: Hey, Sean, I've got a Ford 2018 Model Crew Cab. I'm looking for a retractable cover. I don't want the shiny black. I want the flat black in color.
Sean: What size bed?
Ford Owner: It's the crew cab. I haven't actually measured the bed, but it's the crew cab Ford 2018 model.Sean: Okay. Usually, on the double doors, it's a 5.5 short bed, or you'd have a 6.5, or an 8', which you'd know if you had an 8'.
Ford Owner: Yeah, it's not an 8'. If it came down to an order, I'd make sure before I ordered.Sean: Yeah, so there are two different types of covers that Retrax offers. Retrax is actually probably the best brand when it comes to their rolling covers. There's the ONE, which is the polycarbonate series, and then the PRO, which is the aluminum series. The PRO, they're actually running a special right now on their Retrax XR, which is the RetraxPRO MX, which is a matte black finish, and the XR part are referring to the side rails. The side rails on that model have T-slots to where you can add bike racks and kayak racks and stuff like that, and right now they're actually doing a promotion where if you buy one of those XRs, they send you a free set of Yakima JetStream load bars with it which is a $500 value.
Ford Owner: Okay.Sean: Then if you didn't want those bars, which honestly for an extra 100 bucks to get that $500 gift is worth it, but let's say you didn't want that option, you could go back down to just the RetraxPRO MX and save the $100 difference. What I was going to say was both of those come with a lifetime warranty as well.
Ford Owner: Right. How about the Brinx?Sean: Brinx? I've never even heard of a Brinx tonneau cover, so let's look here.
Ford Owner: What do you have at around, say, $1,000-$1,200 range?Sean: If you wanna stay within that range you could still get a Retrax. You can get the ONE MX.
Ford Owner: What's the difference in the ONE MX?Sean: Well, it's polycarbonate instead of aluminum. It does have aluminum support rods every three inches, but the material of the cover itself is actually polycarbonate which is a plastic, so it's not quite the cover that the aluminum one is, but honestly, if it's going on a daily drive and you're not in construction, you're not using that cover 50 times a day, the ONE would probably be perfect for you. It's got a three-year warranty instead of a lifetime.
Ford Owner: Yeah, we're just using this cover for a vacation vehicle.Sean: Yeah, man. The RetraxONE would be perfect for you then. It looks just exactly the same as the aluminum. It functions the same. Like I said, it's the plastic instead of aluminum.
Ford Owner: Yeah. Have you heard of a Gator brand?Sean: I have, and honestly, you know what that is? It's a private label of a Retrax. There are a couple different covers that Retrax has that are cheaper, and what they do is they space those support rods out a little bit further. I'm not sure if anything else is different as far as hardware and stuff like that, but I know that on those private labels, they take some of the extra cost out of it and that's what makes it cheaper and that's what makes them easily sold. But there are differences and that's the difference.
Ford Owner: Well, that shorter bed, I'm just using it as basically storage for luggage and stuff, but I also want a quality cover that I won't be replacing in five years.Sean: Yeah, I've not heard a whole lot of issues with the Retrax, even the ONE. I worked for Truck Hero, which is the company that owns Retrax, and I sold Retrax all over the world, man. Australia, Dubai, Germany, all over the place, and it quickly became the number one seller.
Ford Owner: Well, let me measure my bed and give it some thought and I may give you a shout back.Sean: All right, man. If you give us a call, my name is Sean.
What Kind of Weight Rating Does The Trax Rail System on The Retrax ONE XR Have?
Ford Owner: I was wanting to get some information on a rolling bed cover?Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay. Retrax?
Ford Owner: Yes, Retrax. The RetraxONE MX tonneau cover.Tonneau Covered Agent: What kind of truck is it?
Ford Owner: A 2018 Ford F250 with the 6 foot 9 bed.Tonneau Covered Agent: Let me ask you this: do you ever see yourself using a rack on that tonneau cover? Because the Retrax ONE XR has a Trax Rail System.
Ford Owner: Well, you know, I was wondering that same thing when I saw there was a Trax Rail System option for that one. How much is the price difference?Tonneau Covered Agent: 100 extra bucks, but you get a $500 set of load bars for it through the 30th of this month with the current rebate.
Ford Owner: Okay. What kind of weight rating do they handle in the track system?Tonneau Covered Agent: The weight rating in the track system? I know the cover itself is 500. The track system, I might say that you're the only person I've had ask me that so far.
Ford Owner: Is it up higher on that one with the track system, or is it exactly the same other than it's got the track in it?Tonneau Covered Agent: You know, I've not seen them in person, but comparing them to the pictures, they look very similar, if not maybe an extra half inch on that rail, or on the slotted one.
Ford Owner: Okay. That was another thing I was wondering about it.Tonneau Covered Agent: Yeah, a quarter of an inch or a half inch, somewhere around there. I'm not seeing a weight rating for it, but since it's directly on your rails themselves and not pushing on the cover, I would safely say 6-700 pounds. I don't know what you're going to put on there that's going to be that much. I think at that point, I'd be worried about the rack breaking, right?
Ford Owner: That could be. So, who manufactures the rack that goes into the track?Tonneau Covered Agent: Yakima.
Ford Owner: Okay, it's not Rhino Rack, it's Yakima.Tonneau Covered Agent: Right, but you can get any one with a T-slot: Yakima, Tully, Rhino Rack
Ford Owner: Okay, well, why don't you price them out and I'll try to decide what I want to do.Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay. I'll send you a couple emails here with some quotes. Just let us know what you want to do. You can call us back and we can help you, or you can just complete it through the email.
Ford Owner: Okay. Then, the warranty, is that handled through your site, or is that handled right from the manufacturer?Tonneau Covered Agent: It is a manufacturer's warranty, but should you have any issues, you let us know and we'll start the conversation with you guys and help you out.
Does Extang or BAK Have the Best Tonneau Cover for a 2018 Ford F-150?
Ford F-150 Owner: I went and looked at that Extang. So, that one doesn't fold up all three sections, right? It just unfolds the back two, so it doesn't flip up against the back window?
Sean: Correct. So, if you plan on driving with it open very often, you can't do it. But, the good part about the Extang, I don't know if you looked at the install video, there's no rails. It just literally clamps on to the sides of your bed, so you can have thing off there in three minutes.
Ford F-150 Owner: Okay. What about the MX4, does that one come off fairly easy or no?
Sean: Yeah, they both come off fairly easy. The MX4, you probably wouldn't need to take it off. But, let's assume that you do, all you have to do is just lift the cover towards leaning up against the cab, and then reach your hand underneath and loosen the star knob that's underneath, and the elevator bolt that goes through the top of the cover will pop right out, and then the whole cover just lifts right off the rails. The covers are held on to the rails at the front with a bracket. The elevator bolt goes through the left and right side, and then star knobs tighten it down. So, it's an easy as removing those and it pop right off.
Ford F-150 Owner: Okay. But on the Extang do you think it's better as far as water resistance?
Sean: If you install it properly it does a pretty good job. With the MX4 you get the drain tubes for the bed of your truck. So, that means either using an existing hole in the very front. Older trucks used to have the black plastic piece, I'm not sure on the newer trucks. But, you just pop one of those out, or you drill small hole through there. Or you can actually drill it through the bed of your truck. But, a lot less people want to do that.
Ford F-150 Owner: Yeah. I wouldn't want to drill in the bed of my truck either.Sean: Right. I get it. But, in order to keep that water out, they do design them to where the water is supposed to go to the channels in the rails, which pushes it through the drain tubes, and out of the bed.
Ford F-150 Owner: Right. That's cool. I think maybe I'll stick with that MX4. Is the only difference between the MX4 and the G2 that one has 4 segments and the other has 3?Sean: No, the G2 and the MX4 are night and day. The G2 is going to be the shiny finish. The panels aren't as thick, so they're not as dent proof. Its only rated for 300 pounds, while the MX4 is 400. The MX4 has a dual-action tailgate seal. You can open and close the tailgate without having to open the last handle of the cover. So, yeah, I could go on and on. The MX4 is far better.
Ford F-150 Owner: Okay. That's all I needed to know. Okay, let me verify my bed length so I don't order this thing and find out how I was wrong.Sean: Yeah you don't want to shoot yourself in the foot.
Ford F-150 Owner: One of the reviews said you guys offer a tailgate seal kit?Sean: Yeah, I'll send you a tailgate seal. What was the truck again?
Ford F-150 Owner: Its a 2018 Ford F-150.Sean: Okay.
Ford F-150 Owner: So when I measure my bed, am I supposed to just measure the inside dimensions from the inside of the bed to the inside of the tailgate?Sean: Yeah, inside of the bowl and inside the tailgate, so the very front of your bed. And if it's the big crew, you know, with the full four doors, it could be a 5.7
Ford F-150 Owner: Yep. That's what I got. Well then let's go ahead and get the MX4 ordered.Sean: Okay I'll go ahead and get this shipped out. We should be good to go!
Ford F-150 Owner: Cool. Okay. Sounds good.
What is The Best Bed Liner or Bed Mat for My 2018 Ford F150 Super Crew?
Ford F-150 Owner: Hi, I was pinging you back and forth here for a while on the tonneau cover for a Ford, the BAKFlip MX4, and I wanted to get the order placed.Peter: What truck was it for again?
Ford F-150 Owner: It's a 2018 Ford F150 Super Crew, short bed.Peter: Okay, got it. I can still honor the original offer I sent you plus free shipping, and no sales tax.
Ford F-150 Owner: Cool. I was thinking about adding the bug screen for the front. Are those worth it?Peter: Yeah, I don't know. Some guys just like the look of them. I think if it serves some purpose and they like the look, they get it, but I don't think it does a whole lot.
Ford F-150 Owner: That's where I'm leaning. Then the other thought that I had was what would it cost me to adding a bed liner.Peter: What kind?
Ford F-150 Owner: It's already got that spray coating on it, that black stuff, but it's rough, so just like a pad or something.Peter: A popular option is the Dee Zee Heavyweight Mat. It's a rubber mat that's a little bit thicker than your average mat.
Ford F-150 Owner: Okay. Let's do that and a cover.Peter: Okay. Then I'm going to get this shipped out for you.
Ford F-150 Owner: Awesome. Thank you for your help.
Can I Install the BAKFlip G2 By Myself on a 2018 Ford F-150?
F-150 Owner: Hi, I'm following up on an email that we've been going back and forth with for a couple of weeks. The BAKFlip G2 I just want to make sure that the offer you got me a week or so ago is still good.Peter: Okay, let me take a look. What truck is it for?
F-150 Owner: It's a 2018 Ford F-150 with a 5 and a half foot bed.
Peter: Okay. So, I've got the G2 in stock, and I can honor the offer I quoted you. It's free shipping and there's no sales tax.
F-150 Owner: Okay. So if we order that today, about mid-week next week is when that would come in?Peter: Or towards the end. Yes.
F-150 Owner: And then, one of the things that y'all were doing last week was a tailgate seal kit for that.Peter: Right. I can include that as well.
F-150 Owner: I had sent in a question last week, kind of a follow up. Because I've been shopping for months. And I noticed that on some sites, they talk about a 5'5 bed, which is what I believe I have, because that's what's on the paperwork. And then some talk about a 5'7 bed.Peter: Right.
F-150 Owner: So, are those actually two different lengths? Or is that just a difference in the way you measure?Peter: No, there's only one size bed for the short bed. Some people just call it a different length. But I know exactly which one that is. So, the fitment will be perfect.
F-150 Owner: Okay. Can I install this tonneau cover all by myself?Peter: Yep, this is a piece of cake. Just take your time. You know, just get everything out. You just get the rails clamped on, get the cover in their, and install the drain tubes. It's pretty straightforward.
F-150 Owner: Okay. All right. It looks like it. It looks like it. All right, well, if you'll send that link to me, and then I can give you a credit card number over the internet, or secure email.Peter: Yeah. I just sent it, so if you don't see it shortly, just check your spam.
Robert: Okay. Very good.
