How Heavy are the Flips in the Tri-Fold of the BAKFlip MX4?
GMC Owner: I saw your advertisement on the Internet and I got a price quote. I'm looking for a bed cover for my wife's pickup and I was wondering if you can help me out.Peter: Yeah, definitely. What truck is it for?
GMC Owner: It's a 2018 GMC pickup.Peter: Okay.
GMC Owner: 5'9" or 5'8" bed.Peter: Okay. The short one. Got It. Was there a particular model you were looking at?
GMC Owner: Well, yeah, I'm looking at two here. The BAKflip MX4 and they're RetraxPRO MX.Peter: Okay, great. Yeah, the MX4 is my favorite folding cover and the RetraxPRO MX is the best retractable.
GMC Owner: Your pricing is about $300 cheaper than, what I've been seeing elsewhere.Peter: Yeah. We're known for our pricing here.
GMC Owner: Yeah. Let me ask you about that and that MX4 BAKflip is that, I mean that was pretty sturdy bed cover.
Peter: Absolutely. Yeah. It can hold like 400 pounds on top. It's really heavy-duty.
GMC Owner: Okay, okay. Well, let me ask you a question here on this. I mean because I really like the Retrax, but the price is obviously higher. The only thing I worry about with the BAKflip is my wife being able to flip it. I think she can flip the first one, but then when it comes to the second one. How heavy are those, flips?Peter: I mean, I honestly, I don't think she'll have a problem. I have many customers who buy these for their wives trucks and never hear about it being an issue. I think she'd be okay with the Retrax, too. Just remember with a short bed that the canister, that the cover retract into is going to take up about 10 inches by 10 inches by the width of the bed.
GMC Owner: Oh, that's right. So, you lose that bed space then.Peter: Right.
GMC Owner: All right. Okay. Well, that's okay. That's more appealing than to the BAKflip. Okay. Well, Peter, can I call you back here and say in an hour.Peter: Yeah, no problem.
What Tonneau Covers Are Real Low Profile and Act as a Tri-Fold and Are Comparable to the Lomax?
Dodge Ram Owner: Hey Peter. I just talked with you earlier ago about the Lomax for the Ram pickup.Peter: Okay.
Dodge Ram Owner: Just wanting to know, do you have any other tonneau covers that's a real low profile, like act as a tri-fold that are comparable to the Lomax?Peter: Yes.
Dodge Ram Owner: Any other brands?Peter: Yeah, all the BAKFlip models. They fit even more flush than the Lomax.
Dodge Ram Owner: Is there any difference between that and the Lomax besides the low profile? I mean is all the features about the same?Peter: No, they're very different. The best way to look at those would be at their website which is BAK Industries. They have several different ones. They have videos and descriptions. My prices are much lower than what are advertised on that site.
Dodge Ram Owner: Appreciate it, Peter. I'll do some research and get back to you. Thank you.Peter: Thanks. All righty, bye bye.
What is the Best Scratch Resistant Waterproof Tonneau Cover for a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500?
GMC Sierra Owner: I have a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 5'8 bed, and I need a tonneau cover.Shaun: What kind of cover were you looking at?
GMC Sierra Owner: Well, you sent me an email on a couple that, or three of them that kind of go over the top. Two from Extang and one from Retrax.
GMC Sierra Owner: But I think from looking at those and kind of figuring it out, I think we're more in line to do one of the covers that, what do you call it? Low profile? The one that's not on top of the bed, it's in the bed.
Shaun: The tri-fold.
GMC Sierra Owner: The tri-fold. Tri-fold or a roll up, but it looks like the roll ups cost a heck of a lot more.
Shaun: Correct, yeah the Retrax, the aluminum version, which is one with the life-time warranty on it. That one costs more. Are you wanting to get a BakFlip or something like that?
GMC Sierra Owner: Yeah, I'm thinking so. The email I got a couple of weeks ago had the BAKFlip MX4. I like that one. And I was kind of Googling it last night and checking out some reviews. Apparently, folks like it, except that they say it scratches pretty easily.
Shaun: Alright, the one you're going to want, if you're going for the tri-fold, the one you're going to want is UnderCover Armor Flex. It's got LINE-X on it. You can't scratch that cover.
GMC Sierra Owner: Got you. And is it a matte black or a shiny black?
Shaun: Matte black.
GMC Sierra Owner: Okay, and it's pretty good on the water spilling off? Here it is. They're all about the same aren't they, when it comes to that?
Shaun: Yeah, and this one's actually got a five-year warranty instead of a three.
GMC Sierra Owner: Oh, okay, yeah if you could shoot me that one in an email I'll take a look.
Shaun: Okay, I'm going to send you the actual order form. All you got to do if you want to go ahead and do it is click proceed with that.
What's The Difference Between Roll N Lock's A Series M Series & E Series Tonneau Covers?
Toyota Tundra Owner: I just received an email from you about a Roll-N-Lock cover. And I need more information.Peter: Okay.
Toyota Tundra Owner: I've got a Toyota Tundra, crew cab, five and a half foot bed. I see that you've got the M series, the A series and the E series. What are the primary differences? Just the vinyl over the aluminum, and powder-coated?Peter: Yeah, so they're very similar except the M series is the vinyl over the aluminum. The A series is just the all powder-coated aluminum and then the E series is the aluminum with electric retractable. It's electric-powered, yeah.
Toyota Tundra Owner: Okay. Now, no, I don't need electric at all. Actually, I've never had a vinyl cover on a truck before. I've always owned a truck, but I've never had a cover like that. And I got this new one and I'm thinking I want to do this. What is your opinion of the Roll-N-Lock versus the tri-fold?Peter: Well, I mean I like the hard covers just because you get more security, obviously. The retractables are great, but they're just super heavy duty. One thing to think about is that a retractable has a canister that the cover slot, that the cover retracts into, and that sits down in the bed and that takes up about 10 inches by 10 inches by the width of the bed. So you're going lose some space in there. If that's a concern, then the hard folding covers, like the back-flip covers, might be a good option because it gives you full bed access when you need to.
Toyota Tundra Owner: I see. Okay, so you're saying that the Roll-N-Lock has that ... It actually takes up part of my bed?Peter: Yes. It rolls into a canister that sits down inside the bed, behind the cab. Like right at the front of the bed. So you're going to lose a little bit of bed space there.
Toyota Tundra Owner: Okay. A question, does that go all the way down to the bed itself?Peter: It doesn't. You're going to have some space underneath, but it does go the full width of the bed.
Toyota Tundra Owner: Okay. Well, the reason I'm questioning is, with the bed that I've got, I can put my seven-foot rods caddy-corner and they fit. My rods and reels, fishing rods, and they fit but if I lost any space right down at the bottom of the ... on the bed, on the bottom of the bed itself, then I would not be able to do that.Peter: No, you should be fine with rods. You're going to have enough room for those. Definitely.
Do I Have to Drill Anything to Install an Extang Solid Fold 2.0 for a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500
Dodge Ram Owner: Quick question. I need to get a Tonneau cover for my truck. I just bought a truck, and the one from my old truck doesn't fit the new truck. And I need it because I'm going on vacation and I need to put all the luggage in the back and I have to have a cover. So I need it quickly.Shawn: Okay. No problem
Dodge Ram Owner: How long does shipping take to get one of these covers?Shawn: What kind of cover are you looking at?
Dodge Ram Owner: Well I like American Hard Tri-fold.Shawn: Okay. Let's see here. American Hard Tri-fold. Are you referring to like the Tonneau Covers USA?
Dodge Ram Owner: No, I saw one online somewhere else. All it says is American Hard Tri-fold Tonneau Cover. The problem is when I called the other place they were telling me that I can't get this from them until the end of next week.Shawn: What's the truck?
Dodge Ram Owner: It's a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500. It's a new model. The one with the 6 lug wheel, 5.7 bed.
Shawn: I don't think that's going to be something that I can get, unfortunately. We don't carry that.
Dodge Ram Owner: What else can you recommend?
Shawn: The only thing the closest I can get you for a hard tri-fold cover, and it's going to be night and day versus what you're looking at, but it's going to be way better quality, is the Extang Solid Fold. And that one goes for a few hundred bucks more.
Dodge Ram Owner: And how quickly can I get that one?
Shawn: Let me see.
Dodge Ram Owner: You're saying this a better cover?
Shawn: Yeah. The one you're looking at, I mean, I don't know, I might be biased. But I worked for the company that owns Extang for about 10 years. And yeah, they just make a great product. And the one you're looking at, I don't know who makes that. It looks just like Extang's soft folding cover, but they're saying it's a hard folding so I don't know. But based on your location it looks like it can ship tomorrow, and then arrive at you I'd say next day if not the following day.
Dodge Ram Owner: Is there a way to see how it clamps on underneath?
Shawn: Yeah. If you're on Extang's website, you can go to Solid Fold 2.0. Scroll down and you'll see installation, and there's a video right there. It's very simple though, man. You've got two clamps on the very front panel. And then you've got two in the rear by the tailgate. Essentially what you're going to do is the clamp is recessed into the cover. So you're going to grab it, pull it down, and then you're going to loosen it. It's got a little hook on there, so to speak. And it actually hooks on your rails.
Dodge Ram Owner: I mean, I don't have any rails or anything. So you're talking about the side of my bed?
Dodge Ram Owner: So I don't have to drill anything to install the cover?
Shawn: Nope. No, it's just got those little clamps. It's like a J is how I would describe them. You just loosen them up, and they clamp right onto the side. You don't even have to add an extra rail like if you were to buy a back flip or one of those that sit between the rails. They come with two separate rails that you have to clamp onto your bed rails. This doesn't do that.
Dodge Ram Owner: I see the other ones were actually like a vinyl. That American one. It's material, but it has a hard plate or something underneath it. So, it's actually, they call it a hard because it's got the hard bottom. But I don't want somebody to be able to cut into my back with a knife or something. Do you know what I mean?
Shawn: Yeah. No, you're not going to have that with this. You're going to have, it's an inch thick EnduraShield panel, which is their patented design there, that panel.
Dodge Ram Owner: The seams don't leak?
Shawn: No. From what I understand, this is the best folding cover for keeping water out of the bed since it sits on top of the rails, instead of between the rails like a lot of folding covers do. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're going to like this a lot more. Because I'll tell you, even though you spent an extra couple hundred bucks, you're buying American made. You're not buying Chinese like that other stuff.
Dodge Ram Owner: Oh really? Oh good. Well, that sold it right there. Go ahead. Let's just go ahead and do it.
Shawn: And I'll get it placed in my distributor right away too. Just to make sure it makes it on tomorrows truck.
