What Does the Retrax Pro MX Include for a 2018 Dodge Ram?

Dodge Ram Owner: I'm calling about a bed cover.

Peter: Okay. Which cover are you looking at?

Dodge Ram Owner: I'm looking at the Retrax Pro MX.

Peter: Okay. And what truck is it for?

Dodge Ram Owner: It's a 2018 Dodge Ram Crew Cab 2500.

Peter: Okay. Bed length?

Dodge Ram Owner: Six foot four inches.

Peter: Okay. And have we sent you a quote yet?

Dodge Ram Owner: Y'all sent me one a while back when I first looked at it and the email said to call to order.

Peter: Okay. It's free shipping and there's no sales tax, if you're ordering from outside of Arizona.

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay. What kinda time are we looking at getting it shipped?

Peter: About five to seven days.

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay. Does the Pro MX come with anything?

Peter: Yes. It comes with all of the mounting stuff you need.

Dodge Ram Owner: And that's going to have an all aluminum black matte finish?

Peter: Yes.

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay great. So now What kinda payment do y'all take?

Peter: We take all cards and PayPal.

Dodge Ram Owner: Now this is original Retrax stuff, right?

Peter: It is.

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay. So do I just need to go onto y'all's website again to pay you through PayPal or what?

Peter: No. I have to email you a link if you want to pay through PayPal. Is that what you wanna do?

Dodge Ram Owner: Yeah because I don't have a credit card to use over the phone

Peter: Okay. I'm gonna email this over to you right now. If you don't see it shortly, just check your spam. I'll see it on my end, once you complete the purchase and I'll get it shipped right out.

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay. You're a retailer for returns right? Do I need to register them for this for them to get the warranty?

Peter: No. You do not.

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay. And there's a lifetime warranty on these, right?

Peter: That's right.

Is it Common For a BAKFlip F1 to get Waterlogged?

Tonneau Covered Customer: I'm having a little trouble. I bought a BAKflip F1 from you guys on September 26, 2016. Apparently, it's gotten waterlogged or something because it weighs about a thousand pounds, I'm trying to open it. I called BAK Industries they said if I could find my receipt, they could replace it. But I can't seem to come up with my receipt, I'm hoping you guys can dig it up.

Peter: Okay. Yes I found it.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Could you email it for me?

Peter: Yep, I'm going to do that right now.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Wonderful. Did you ever hear of that before, them getting waterlogged or something?

Peter: Yeah, so what happens is kind of rare, but I have heard of it. The fiberglass would get a tiny, tiny little crack in it and then over time water can seep in and that can create that issue.

Tonneau Covered Customer: It's like every one of the panels.

Peter: Yeah.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Can't flip the thing open, I had to have some people come in and help me.

Peter: Well I'll send this over so you can get back to BAK and have it replaced under warranty.

What Does the Lifetime Warranty for the Retrax Pro MX Cover?

Dodge Owner: I'm interested in the Retrax Pro MX. Are you guys an authorized dealer? What kind of warranty comes with that tonneau cover?

Peter: That's right. Yeah, we're an authorized dealer. We work directly with the manufacturer and that one has a lifetime warranty.

Dodge Owner: Okay. On those, is there anything I have to worry about as far as the inside? As far as canister and all that, how that holds up and far as the moving parts and all that? I did some research on them and found it's one of the better ones.

Peter: It's the best retractable out there, in my opinion. It's going to hold up for the lifetime of the truck. I mean it's not uncommon to hear about having one of these covers on for you know, 10 - 12 years. They hold up very, very well over time.

Dodge Owner: Okay. So a lifetime warranty? What does that cover the lifetime warranty? That's not for the finish that's for the internal parts, right, the moving parts?

Peter: Yeah, it's not for the finish but it's pretty much for everything else. Like they really like to keep you as a customer. They're really easy to work with if something were to come up.

Dodge Owner: Okay. Well like I said, I was just looking around and I emailed, I think I emailed you guys over the weekend but I guess you were probably closed for the holiday and stuff. And I saw the email back today.

Peter: Okay.

Dodge Owner: You got my email. I'll make a decision soon and then I'll call you back.

Peter: Okay, sounds good.

Once My Retrax Cover Is Installed, What Should I Do if it Won't Latch?

Tonneau Covered Customer: I have recently ordered a Retrax cover from you guys.

Peter: Okay.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Long story short, I just put it on myself and everything is fine. My last one, I've had my last one for years. I put it on, I thought, cause it wouldn't snap, the little latch would not snap all the way down. I was like, "Well, it's just an adjustment, I'll get to it, eventually." I finally started messing with it, but the latch itself will not close. I actually took the whole latch off, and it actually won't snap closed.

Peter: Okay, I just pulled up your order and I see it here. Since it's on, it's been installed, you're actually in the warranty period with the manufacturer. This is obviously still under warranty. You're going to deal with the manufacturer directly on this. They can either replace that handle, or you know, the whole cover if they have to. But it's going to be their call on this one. I can give you their phone number when you're ready.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Sure, what's the number for Retrax?

Peter: Okay, it's 800-206-4070. And I'm just going to email you again your order confirmation in case they ask for that, but I don't think they will. This is a recent purchase. Give them a call, they should be able to help you with this, and let me know if you need anything else from me.

BAK FiberMAX vs BAKFlip MX4 for a 2019 Dodge Ram With a 5'7 Bed

Dodge Ram Owner: I have a couple of questions about the cover you just sent me an email. I had originally inquired about the BAK FiberMAX.

Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay.

Dodge Ram Owner: I've had a couple of them on my previous vehicles. I had a 2013 Ram and I know that after about, I don't know, it was like a year, I had to call in a warranty claim. They covered it with no issues whatsoever, and they went ahead and sent me out a new cover.

Tonneau Covered Agent: Right

Dodge Ram Owner: I have a couple of friends that also have the FiberMAX and they had the same issue as well. I don't know if it was an issue with manufacturing, or if it was material issue or what, but the cover got these real fine cracks in it in between the texture of the FiberMAX cover.

Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay

Dodge Ram Owner: and I guess water would get inside the FiberMAX cover and create an issue with swelling, you know?

Tonneau Covered Agent: Right

Dodge Ram Owner: With that being said, has that issue been addressed already or is it that an ongoing issue? I think what's causing the crack is that it gets very hot down here in Florida and we have a lot of humidity. We get thunderstorms that come out of nowhere plus 100 degree weather. So you're talking rain water hitting a super hot surface. I guess that would cause little tiny fractures in the material.

Tonneau Covered Agent: I've heard of that occurring, I don't believe it's been addressed. I'm not positive on that, but I know that that doesn't happen with the aluminum covers like the BAKFlip MX4.

Dodge Ram Owner: Right. The only downside to the aluminum though that I don't like is that you toss something on the bed of your truck real quick and it dents.

Tonneau Covered Agent: I see.

Dodge Ram Owner: So between those 2 covers you either face the FiberMAX issue or you face the issue with something getting tossed on your bed and denting it. Once it's dented, that's it. There's nothing can be done about it.

Tonneau Covered Agent: Right

Dodge Ram Owner: So it's a give and take. With that being said, that MX4 cover, is that cover a more expensive cover, or is that a cheaper cover than the FiberMAX? I thought the FiberMAX was the more heavier duty one.

Tonneau Covered Agent: So the FiberMAX does stand up to denting better than the aluminum, but the MX4 does cost more. What truck was this for again?

Dodge Ram Owner: It's for a 2019 Dodge Ram, with a 5'7 bed

Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay

Dodge Ram Owner: When I read about the FiberMAX they're saying that the FiberMAX is more durable than the MX4, but the MX4 is more durable than the G2. Is that correct?

Tonneau Covered Agent: That's correct. Yeah, the MX4 is kind of its own animal. It's the most popular tonneau cover on the market, period. So pricing gets a little more competitive.

Dodge Ram Owner: Because the MX4 is the more popular option?

Tonneau Covered Agent: Yes, exactly.

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay. I saw a video on YouTube about a feature that I wasn't sure if they were incorporating yet. They were showing the MX4 and I'm sure it's going to be the same thing with the G2 or the FiberMAX, that they have a new system where it automatically holds the top up. It locks it in place rather than to have the back arm to put it in the little slot there and tighten down the handle. Has that been incorporated into these tops yet?

Tonneau Covered Agent: No, it hasn't. They've been talking about that for 2 years but it has not yet.

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay, yeah I know because I saw a video and I was like oh wait a minute, they got a new locking mechanism where it automatically locks.

Tonneau Covered Agent: Right

Dodge Ram Owner: So that hasn't been put in yet. Alrighty, so on the FiberMAX. Does that still comes with a three year warranty or no?

Tonneau Covered Agent: It's a 2 year warranty

Dodge Ram Owner: Oh it's a 2 year. Okay. So, then the FiberMAX is a 2 year warranty and the MX4 is a 3 year warranty?

Tonneau Covered Agent: That's right

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay, alright and the 3 year covers on the MX4 obviously doesn't cover dents because it's user error, correct?

Tonneau Covered Agent: That's right.

Dodge Ram Owner: Because I'm still leaning toward the FiberMAX even though I've had that, I've had that issue but it's just one of those things where I'm like I don't know if I want to have to deal with the cracks again or if I want to take the chance and go with the aluminum and then take the chance in getting the top dented even though it shouldn't realistically.

Tonneau Covered Agent: Right.

Dodge Ram Owner: So that's something I have to think of real quick. I need to figure out if I want the BAKFlip MX4 or the FiberMAX. I'll give you a call back.

Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay, sounds good, we'll talk to you soon.
