What is the Price Difference on a Retrax Cover For a Dually With an 8 Foot Bed?

Dodge Ram Owner: Peter! Good morning. I was looking through your website regarding the sliders, the power sliders for the trucks?

Peter: Okay.

Dodge Ram Owner: I have a 2013 Dodge Ram. The mega cab. Something like that, what does it run?

Peter: You're talking about an eight foot fed, right?

Dodge Ram Owner: You know what? I want to say mine is six foot bed, 'cause I got the mega cab. It's a little short.

Peter: Okay, but it's a Dually?

Dodge Ram Owner: It's a Dually, yes.

Peter: Hm, okay. Most Duallys are eight feet, but maybe you have a different setup. For the shorter beds, that you believe you have, the Retrax Powertrax Pro, which is a powered aluminum tonneau cover, would be good. I'll send you a quote right now. If it's an eight foot bed it's going to be about $100 more than that.

Dodge Ram Owner: Oh, okay. Yeah, because like I say, I got the mega cab. The cab is bigger, but I think the bed is shorter.

Peter: Okay, 6'4". Okay.

Dodge Ram Owner: Yeah. Yeah, something like that. I know it's not the long one, 'cause it wouldn't fit in my garage if it was.

Peter: Okay, got you. Got you. You should have the quote in your email now. That was for the aluminum powered retractable cover.

Dodge Ram Owner: Aluminum powered, okay. That's what I was looking for. Okay. All righty. I was just looking around. I read your website. I said, "Ah, let me check them out first." All right, Peter. Well, what I'll do, I'll look around more. Where am I calling? That's what I'm saying. Where am I calling at?

Peter: Well, we're in Arizona.

Dodge Ram Owner: Oh! Okay, okay. Do you guys have any warehouses anywhere else in the country?

Peter: We ship directly from the manufacturer.

Dodge Ram Owner: Oh, okay. Okay, okay. I see what you're saying. I'm always out of town. It's going to be hard. All right, Peter. Well, I appreciate your time. I'll look into it more. I thank you again.

Peter: No problem. Talk to you soon.

What's the Best Retractable Cover For a Ford 2018 Model Crew Cab?

Ford Owner: Hey, Sean, I've got a Ford 2018 Model Crew Cab. I'm looking for a retractable cover. I don't want the shiny black. I want the flat black in color.

Sean: What size bed?

Ford Owner: It's the crew cab. I haven't actually measured the bed, but it's the crew cab Ford 2018 model.

Sean: Okay. Usually, on the double doors, it's a 5.5 short bed, or you'd have a 6.5, or an 8', which you'd know if you had an 8'.

Ford Owner: Yeah, it's not an 8'. If it came down to an order, I'd make sure before I ordered.

Sean: Yeah, so there are two different types of covers that Retrax offers. Retrax is actually probably the best brand when it comes to their rolling covers. There's the ONE, which is the polycarbonate series, and then the PRO, which is the aluminum series. The PRO, they're actually running a special right now on their Retrax XR, which is the RetraxPRO MX, which is a matte black finish, and the XR part are referring to the side rails. The side rails on that model have T-slots to where you can add bike racks and kayak racks and stuff like that, and right now they're actually doing a promotion where if you buy one of those XRs, they send you a free set of Yakima JetStream load bars with it which is a $500 value.

Ford Owner: Okay.

Sean: Then if you didn't want those bars, which honestly for an extra 100 bucks to get that $500 gift is worth it, but let's say you didn't want that option, you could go back down to just the RetraxPRO MX and save the $100 difference. What I was going to say was both of those come with a lifetime warranty as well.

Ford Owner: Right. How about the Brinx?

Sean: Brinx? I've never even heard of a Brinx tonneau cover, so let's look here.

Ford Owner: What do you have at around, say, $1,000-$1,200 range?

Sean: If you wanna stay within that range you could still get a Retrax. You can get the ONE MX.

Ford Owner: What's the difference in the ONE MX?

Sean: Well, it's polycarbonate instead of aluminum. It does have aluminum support rods every three inches, but the material of the cover itself is actually polycarbonate which is a plastic, so it's not quite the cover that the aluminum one is, but honestly, if it's going on a daily drive and you're not in construction, you're not using that cover 50 times a day, the ONE would probably be perfect for you. It's got a three-year warranty instead of a lifetime.

Ford Owner: Yeah, we're just using this cover for a vacation vehicle.

Sean: Yeah, man. The RetraxONE would be perfect for you then. It looks just exactly the same as the aluminum. It functions the same. Like I said, it's the plastic instead of aluminum.

Ford Owner: Yeah. Have you heard of a Gator brand?

Sean: I have, and honestly, you know what that is? It's a private label of a Retrax. There are a couple different covers that Retrax has that are cheaper, and what they do is they space those support rods out a little bit further. I'm not sure if anything else is different as far as hardware and stuff like that, but I know that on those private labels, they take some of the extra cost out of it and that's what makes it cheaper and that's what makes them easily sold. But there are differences and that's the difference.

Ford Owner: Well, that shorter bed, I'm just using it as basically storage for luggage and stuff, but I also want a quality cover that I won't be replacing in five years.

Sean: Yeah, I've not heard a whole lot of issues with the Retrax, even the ONE. I worked for Truck Hero, which is the company that owns Retrax, and I sold Retrax all over the world, man. Australia, Dubai, Germany, all over the place, and it quickly became the number one seller.

Ford Owner: Well, let me measure my bed and give it some thought and I may give you a shout back.

Sean: All right, man. If you give us a call, my name is Sean.

Does the Remote Tailgate Release Still Work on a 2016 F150 King Ranch with a Retrax Pro XR Cover?

F-150 Owner: You had sent me a quote yesterday and I called and talked to one of your other representatives. I'm looking at the Retrax Pro XR.

Peter: Okay.

F-150 Owner: I have a 2016 F150 King Ranch, so it has the remote tailgate release.

Peter: Okay.

F-150 Owner: I know that this Retrax goes over the tailgate. Is it so tight that the release, I mean, usually on these type of things until the seal wears in a little bit over a month or something, it might be a little tight from the release, but does the release still work?

Peter: Yes, it will be a little tight at first. With the Retrax it will be even a little bit tight when you're opening it and closing it for the first couple of weeks. So that's normal, but it definitely wears and you won't have any issues there.

F-150 Owner: All right, next question. The powered version, what's the cost of that versus the Pro XR?

Peter: Double check that here. So you want the powered?

F-150 Owner: No, I'm just comparing. The problem is because it's an FX4 it's up a little high and my wife's only five two.

Peter: Yep. I understand. What's the bed length?

F-150 Owner: Five and a half. Or five seven, whatever it is. It's a 2016 F150.

Peter: Okay. Let me see.

F-150 Owner: So it would be the Power Trax Pro XR.

Peter: Yep. There's roughly a $740 difference. Same deal with the free shipping. No sales tax if you're ordering from outside of Arizona.

F-150 Owner: Okay. I'll make my decision in the next couple of hours and then I will give you a call this afternoon.

Peter: Okay. Sounds good. We'll talk to soon.

Will a Retrax XR With Wide Rails Look Better on My 2018 Chevy Silverado Than Standard Rails?

Silverado Owner: Yeah, hi. I'm trying to buy a Retrax bed cover from you guys.

Shaun: Okay, did you want the aluminum version, or which one are you looking at?

Silverado Owner: The aluminum one, I have the part number, but I got two different part numbers, and I want to know which is the best one.

Shaun: What do you got man?

Silverado Owner: I got the 8461 and the 8471.

Shaun: Okay, so the 8461 is going to be the Retrax Pro MX, without the stake pocket holes.

Silverado Owner: Okay that's a bit weird. Oh you know what, it is the 460 I'm sorry, not the 461. That's got the cut out pockets right, the 460?

Shaun: Okay, yeah 460, the 460 does, and what did you say 471?

Silverado Owner: 471. Yes

Shaun: Yeah 471. It has the wide rails.

Silverado Owner: Oh, I see, but it doesn't have the cut out pockets?

Shaun: No, they are meant to cover the whole rail, so that way then, it takes away where its cut half way down the rail. But let me tell you about something real quick. What do you use your truck for?

Silverado Owner: I don't use it much, the truck most of the time its parked, but you know whenever I go somewhere everything should stay locked in place, you know what I mean?

Shaun: Well, let me ask you man. Do you use kayaks or surfboards or fishing poles or anything?

Silverado Owner: I don't, I don't use any of that stuff, I don't think I need cut out pockets.

Shaun: Well no. I was going to tell you that, you know, you're looking at the Retrax Pro, and I'm guessing the matte black version? But they have a new one that is the Retrax XR, and that one has different rails where it has a T slot in it. Right now they are giving away Yakima load bars. Um, I don't know if you have heard of Yakima?

Silverado Owner: You know what, I've seen them in pictures. Like, yeah. I think I know what you are talking about. But that price is a lot more, right?

Shaun: No, no, that's why I'm telling you because right now they are giving those away. That's $550 value, and the cover is only $100 more than the MX. They both come with a lifetime warranty.

Silverado Owner: Now I got three choices.

Shaun: Yeah, see, you thought I was trying to sell you, but I was looking out for you.

Silverado Owner: I didn't know about the wide rails. You think it would look better than the other ones?

Shaun: I think the covers are awesome I'll tell you that much, but as far as the wide rails go, yeah it would make it look more flush, more finished.

Silverado Owner: There we go, okay ... if it covers the whole thing, yes. What about price-wise, they are pretty much the same, right?

Shaun: What's the truck details?

Silverado Owner: It's a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a short bed

Shaun: It's just an extra 100 bucks for the wide rails.

Silverado Owner: Oh man that sounds pretty good.

Shaun: Yes sir, we actually order directly from them in North Dakota. They will build your cover to order, and they'll ship it out to you within 48 to 72 hours.

Silverado Owner: Okay, so you recommend the wide rails, right, they are better, they look better?

Shaun: Yeah, I think between that one and the standard rails they do look better because they fill more of your truck bed rails out. It looks better. It covers the stake pocket hole entirely. If you are never going to use it, you don't need it.

Silverado Owner: There we go. Okay. Well to order it, do I have to do it online, or how do I do this?

Shaun: You can call me or I can send you an order right now that will include a link that you can click whenever you are ready to purchase.

Silverado Owner: Go ahead and do that for me.

Shaun: All right man. It's on its way. Should you need anything else, let us know, or if you need any help let me know too.

What's the Difference Between the Retrax PRO XR and MX for a 2019 Ford F-150?

Ford F-150 Owner: I've got some kind of special requirements that I need to throw out on the table then you can tell me what your recommendation would be. First off, I have a 2019 Ford F-150.

Sean: Okay.

Ford F-150 Owner: Secondly, it's a SuperCrew, and what it's going to be used as is primarily as a tow vehicle for a 23 and a half foot, double whole trailer. Each summer I drag it around chasing all the paragliding competitions, so 13,000 miles every summer. Get where I'm going, drag the trailer up, literally 6,000 feet to where it's cool. I park the trailer with other people and then I use my truck since, it's a four-wheel drive, to carry typically seven pilots total, myself included. To do that we found that if I put all their wings in the cab that I can then pack them into cube space pretty well and get them there. So that means I get two up front, I got to put five in the bed. I have a five and a half foot bed.

Sean: So you want to know, I spoke to you before, right? And you want to know if people could sit on the cover?

Ford F-150 Owner: That's it. Yes. Yes sir. I need something that can hold a decent amount of weight.

Sean: We originally spoke about a rolling cover and you said you can't do that because it'll take up about a foot of your bed space.

Ford F-150 Owner: Well, after talking to you earlier now I'm thinking that a roll-up that rolls in a circle in a box against the window would probably be my best bet. So that I can have three people sit on that. And then two into the bed. So since we talked last I've kind of come to the conclusion, well I can't really have my cake and eat it too. I've got to give up somewhere to get that bench seat.

Sean: Okay. Well, I will say then that if you're okay with a canister type deal, the Retrax is probably the best way to go. I mean its weight rated at 500 pounds evenly distributed on the cover. So I imagine if it's rolled up, it should hold at least that cause there aren't any springs or, moving pieces in a box that you have to worry about. It's all ball bearings. Or if you wanted to do something even more up your alley, they have their RetraxPRO XR which is the same as the MX, same finish, everything like that. But it's another hundred dollars. The difference is it has a T-slot where you can put ladder racks or kayak racks or anything your heart desires. And right now they're actually doing a promotion where if you buy that cover they give you a set of Yakima JetStream load bars for free. So essentially you can have your cover open and still have things on top of the load bars as well, which are movable.

Ford F-150 Owner: Yeah. Wow. I'll have to look at that. So, the XR and the MX, other than the T-racks, is the cover on the roll up canister effectively the same? Or is it reinforced heavier?

Sean: Yes, they're exactly the same. The only difference between the XR and the MX is just a T-slot rails. So the cover is the exact same cover. They do make a retracted one, which is polycarbonate, but that cover only holds up to 200 pounds, so I don't know if that would be the one that I would have people sit on.

Ford F-150 Owner: What is the depth? Four and a half?

Sean: 14 inches.

Ford F-150 Owner: That's perfect. Sounds good, man. I appreciate it. I think that you gave me good advice and it took me a while to do a whole bunch of research and I really wasn't looking at this one, but the 500 pounds sitting on the lid I think is important and it works better for me.

Sean: With a lifetime warranty too, so keep that in mind as well.

Ford F-150: Oh, really? That's really good. All right, thank you so much and I'll holler back at you.

Sean: You got it.

How Do I Confirm The Correct Part Number is Being Shipped for My Dodge Truck?

Tonneau Covered Customer: I ordered a part from you a couple of days ago for a Dodge.

Shaun: Yes sir.

Tonneau Covered Customer: I got my order number confirmed and it's got my old address. I'm just reconfirming you did change the shipping address on this.

Shaun: Yes, I did.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Great! Then you know on that order it confirmed there wasn't any references to the truck it was supposed to fit. It just says 1T80232 RetraxPRO XR

Shaun: 2018, Ram 250064BED with that ram box.

Tonneau Covered Customer: That's correct, all right. Good to go, hey did you get a shipping date on that by chance or do they normally give you that.

Shaun: Lets see what I got, they confirmed it yesterday, and they usually ship within three days. Lets see here, it should ship out tomorrow.
