How Does The BAKFlip MX4 Compare To The Extang Encore?

Toyota Tundra Owner: You and I communicated by email regarding possible Tonneau cover for my 2019 Toyota Tundra.

Peter: Okay.

Toyota Tundra Owner: I've been going back and forth between the BAKflip MX4 and ... what's the other brand that has the cover that can flip from the front as well and has kind of a little lock there?

Peter: That's Extang. The Extang Encore.

Toyota Tundra Owner: Yeah ... Help me out, what are some of the differences, advantages of one or the other. Basically, how does the BAKFlip MX4 compare to the Extang Encore?

Peter: The MX4 can fold all the way up and secure behind the cab so you have full use of your bed when you need to. The Extang doesn't do that. The MX4 sits flush inside the bedrail, so it's super low profile.

Toyota Tundra Owner: Okay. And the Encore?

Peter: The Encore sits up on top, so it's a higher profile cover. Obviously the main difference that you just mentioned, that you can open it from right behind the cab. The MX4 can't do that. I mean, they're both really well reviewed. It just kind of depends on what you're using it for.

Toyota Tundra Owner: I had a BAKFlip before on my other truck. I had a G2, I guess it was, several years ago. I had an 02 Tundra and I think I got that probably 2008 or 9, something like that. Really loved it.

Peter: Yeah.

Toyota Tundra Owner: I understand that the MX4 is probably a little lighter perhaps. I think that the G2, it could get difficult, you know, sometimes trying to flip those things open. So, I'd be leaning toward the MX4 then. I know you emailed me a quote. Where are we at with the MX4 vs the Encore for pricing at this point?

Peter: So, you have a 2019 Tundra? What's the bed length?

Toyota Tundra Owner: Correct. 2019 Toyota Tundra and it's five and a half foot bed.

Peter: Do you have the Deck Rail System in the bed?

Toyota Tundra Owner: No, I don't have a Deck Rail System.

Peter: That quote I sent you for the MX4 is still valid. The Encore would only be $30 more than the MX4. It's free shipping on both and there's no sales tax if you're ordering from outside of Arizona.

What's The Differences Between The Retrax ProMX and the Retrax ProXR?

Dodge Ram Owner: I called in a little earlier and actually did actually some emailing back and forth off your site. But anyway, what I have is a 2018 Dodge RAM 2500 Mega Cab with a short box. You know, I was looking for the Retrax ProMX for it.

Shawn: Okay, one second here.

Dodge Ram Owner: It's the Retrax with the satin black and no motor.

Shawn: Okay. One more time with that vehicle information.

Dodge Ram Owner: It's a 2018 Dodge RAM 2500 Mega Cab, short box.

Shawn: Okay. Thank you. So, are you aware of their Retrax ProXR that they have out now?

Dodge Ram Owner: Is the XR on their site?

Shawn: Yeah. It's essentially the same thing as the Retrax MX, Pro MX, but it has key slot rails where you can add things, and right now, they're doing a promotion. If you buy one of those covers, you get a free Yakima Eastern Low Bar with every purchase. And that's $500 value.

Dodge Ram Owner: Oh yeah. The cover's made out of aluminum right? What are the other differences between the ProMX and the Pro XR?

Shawn: Yes, it's made out of aluminum, and it's actually going to be the same exact thing as the MX, just with a different rail.

Dodge Ram Owner: That's the one with the key or the lock in the back, you push down, it's got a key lock and all that?

Shawn: Yep. And the promotion is through Retrax as well, so I could help you with filling out the form you need to fill out and mail in. But that pretty much sets you up right there and then you can add bike racks, kayak racks. I mean Yakima, Thule, Rhino Rack all those companies work with it.

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay. All right. And then I noticed there was an option for thin rails or light rails, or something to that affect.

Shawn: If you go with the Retrax ProXR, that option goes away.

Dodge Ram Owner: Oh, okay. All right. Well, I'll still go with the XR. Is your warehouse in Scottsdale?

Shawn: Our location in Scottsdale is the main office, but we actually drop ship from all the manufacturers. So your Retrax will be built in North Dakota at the Retrax plant and then ships within 2-3 days.

Dodge Ram Owner: Okay, that's fine. What do we need to get this cover ordered?

Shawn: I can definitely help you with that.

Can I Use Tie-Down Cleats With a Tonneau Cover?

Tonneau Covered Customer: Yeah I just want to ask you is there tie-down cleats that come with this tonneau cover at all?

Peter: No.

Tonneau Covered Customer: So you can't have cleats or anything?

Peter: You might be able to use tie-down cleats, but the cover doesn't come with it.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Okay. If I cut out the stakeholders it won't leak anything will it? Because they're covered with those? I know that it comes without it so, it doesn't make any different does it?

Peter: No it doesn't.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Okay, so I can actually put cleats on the back, on the side ends? Is there enough room where the rails are to put them on?

Peter: I think you'd have to modify it yourself. At that point, I couldn't tell you for sure, unfortunately.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Oh, okay. Because I know that frame where the rail is comes over onto the stakeholder, right?

Peter: Right.

Tonneau Covered Customer: So, okay. So I can put probably some cleats where that cover is. You know, from the outside.

Peter: Right.

How Can I Get the Best Price on a RetraxONE Tonneau Cover for a Ford Ranger?

Shaun: I hear you, and normally we do, but the price you have is already better than even that price that I normally give out. So I can't budge on that, unfortunately. But it's always a good idea to call first to make sure you're getting the best price.

Shaun: They do make them to order and they ship out of North Dakota, so usually it takes two days, three days to make it, and then I'd say three to four days anywhere in the US.

Are Dashboard Covers Custom Made for My Vehicle?

Trailblazer Owner: I want to just find out something about a dashboard cover.

Trailblazer Owner: It's for a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer, a four by four. And the dashcover is custom-made for my vehicle, right?

Do Tailgate Seals Really Work?

F-150 Owner: I'm looking to purchase the BAKFlip Revolver X4 for my truck, which is a 2015 Ford F150 Lariat.

F-150 Owner: Do those seals work that you guys have for the tailgates? I think they are called tailgate seals. Are those worthwhile?

Peter: Yeah, I mean it's good at keeping dust out and water, stuff like that. Yeah, it works. It's a good addition.

F-150 Owner: Okay, alright. I'll have to check the gap in my truck and see. I might call you back on those.
