What Tonneau Cover Has The Best T-Slot Functionality for a Ford F-150?

Ford F-150 Owner: I was originally considering a RetraxPRO. However, the other cover I was looking at, and I know it can be a little bit of a pain if you go pick up something big and you don't think about it ahead of time, was the Undercover RIDGELANDER. Which basically would almost look like the Retrax on the car because it has the same T-Track System for rack assemblies. On the Undercover, how difficult is it to remove? I've been trying to find a video of somebody actually taking the cover off.

Shawn: I'll tell you that I actually worked for UnderCover for almost a decade. And they came out with that cover, and it's the biggest pain to remove. And it takes the longest to put it on. It's a beautiful cover, it works really well, strong, but it is not very friendly when it comes to removing it, unfortunately.

Ford F-150 Owner: Okay. Because I didn't know if there was like one bolt on each side, you undo that, and the thing just kind of slides off?

Shawn: What you're looking for then mainly is that T-slot functionality as well?

Ford F-150 Owner: That's kind of what I was looking at because we like to throw bikes up on top. I've got a cover that used to go on top of like a Suburban when they had it, one of the boxes. And having it on top if we've got stuff in the bottom and the top from that standpoint.

Shawn: Well you know they have a promotion right now on the Retrax XR?

Ford F-150 Owner: Correct that you get the free rails, which is like a $400 value?

Shawn: Have you seen the A.R.E "Double Cover?" What it is, is it's essentially a rolling cover and a one-piece all in one.

Ford F-150 Owner: I mean I've seen it. To me, that would almost be the worst of both worlds, because I think you're going to lose rigidity. Or you're going to have a bar that goes all the way across the tailgate. Because otherwise you've got two bars that are coming out with the cover. From a waterproofing standpoint, I don't think that would be worse than the Retrax or any of the other ones from that standpoint. Because you're dealing with multiple points of intrusion now that are not necessarily attached.

Shawn: Got you. Yeah.

Ford F-150 Owner: Now out of the rolling covers, you prefer the Retrax to the others?

Shawn: Yeah. It's a lot better quality than like a Roll-N-Lock or something of that nature.

Ford F-150 Owner: Or Pace Edwards or the Truck Covers USA.

Shawn: Right, exactly. Yeah.

Ford F-150 Owner: All right. You've answered all my questions. Thank you very much, sir.

Shawn: You got it. Did you want to go ahead and place that with me today?

Ford F-150 Owner: No. Let me talk to my wife tonight just to get everything approved. We've been talking about it, but I don't think it will be an issue. I'll give you a buzz tomorrow.

Shawn: It sounds good, man. Have a good night

What's The Difference Between The MX4 and Ultra Flex for a 2018 GMC Sierra Short Bed?

GMC Sierra Owner: Hi, Peter. I found y'all online looking up Tonneau covers. And I think I'm between the BAKFlip MX4, and the Undercover Ultra Flex. Could you help me?

Peter: Yeah. What truck is it for?

GMC Sierra Owner: It's for a 2018 GMC Sierra short bed. What's the difference between the MX4 and Ultra Flex?

Peter: Okay. They're very similar. I like the Undercover Ultra Flex. It has a longer warranty, so you've got a five-year warranty, where the MX4 has a three-year. And when you have it completely open, it doesn't rest against the cab like the MX4 does. But they're both really great covers. You can't go wrong with either.

GMC Sierra Owner: Okay. What is the price difference between them?

Peter: The Ultraflex is going to be about $40 more, but like I said, it has a longer warranty. It's free shipping on both and there's no sales tax if you're ordering from outside of Arizona.

GMC Sierra Owner: Is one more durable than the other, or they about the same?

Peter: No, they're the same.

GMC Sierra Owner: Okay. All right. I guess I'll go with the Undercover Ultra Flex then.

Peter: Okay. I'm going to get this shipped out today. You should have it by Thursday or Friday.

GMC Sierra Owner: Wow! That's great! I just got an email confirmation.

Peter: Yeah! And you're all set.

What's the Best Tonneau Cover for Heavy Snow and Hail for a 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro?

Tacoma Owner: I would like to order a couple things through you guys if I can, please.

Peter: Sure, I can get you going here. What truck is it for?

Tacoma Owner: This is for a 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro, 5.2 inch bed.

Peter: Okay. What's the first item?

Tacoma Owner: Well, I'd like to get a Bedrug for that vehicle, and that would be the complete Bedrug; I think it's BRY19DCK.

Peter: I'll pull that up here.

Tacoma Owner: Okay. Just to make sure it fits, and that it's the right one.

Peter: Okay the full liner, I've got it here. What's the next item?

Tacoma Owner: Well, this is where I need a little bit of professional advice, okay?

Peter: Okay, sure.

Tacoma Owner: I'm looking at particularly the BakFlip F1, and I don't know if I want to go with the F1 or if I want to do the Undercover Ultra Flex. What is your opinion? We get heavy snow here, we get a lot of hail.

Peter: I would definitely go with the F1. I really, I like the Ultra Flex cover, but it's aluminum, and when you're dealing with hail, it will dent. You'll get those little dimples. And the F1 holds up to hail so much better than the aluminum covers. So I think you're right where you want to be with the F1. And I can do that one with free shipping on everything, and there's no sales tax.

Tacoma Owner: Oh, that's fantastic. That is fantastic, thank you.

What's a Comparable Tonneau Cover to the BAKFlip MX4 for a GMC Sierra?

Sean: Hey. So I just got your email today. I was out after we spoke yesterday. You had a BAKFlip before. What kind of cover are you looking at? Are you looking at wanting to do a BAKFlip again or something comparable?

GMC Sierra Owner: I liked the BAKFlip. I just needed to fit. It seems like it's about a half inch too short. I've been working with James, and he's in the same email, and we tried a lot of different variables. I've tried to push it all the way up against the truck, like the directions call for, then it's a half an inch too short in the back. So I've got a gap that I could just about stick my pinky fingers through. If I try to split the difference and then it leaks on both hands and then I sit it the way it's supposed to at the tailgate. Then it doesn't have enough lip on the front and it's half inch too short up there so that leaks up there. So that's how we got to where we are.

Sean: Right. Let me see here. I think I sent an email about drilling some holes in the cover.

GMC Sierra Owner: I liked that actual style for it that flips. And that one holds like three or four hundred pounds distributed, and it doesn't fade because it's the poly stuff. I've read that the aluminum ones chip and then you can see the aluminum underneath. So that's the reason I was trying to get the poly or whatever you call it.

Sean: Did you get my email about drill some holes in it?

GMC Sierra Owner: Yeah, I figured that ... so they just want me to just randomly go through there and drill holes and then get rid of it and send pictures.

Sean: Yeah. Destroy the cover.

GMC Sierra Owner: That seems unfortunate.

Sean: I know man. I actually worked for Undercover, which is BAK's sister company. Just the whole process, getting them back, having people go through and make sure they're good, chances are they're going to be scratched. You know what I mean? It's just more work.

GMC Sierra Owner: I love the cover. I just don't want her to leak.

Sean: No, I know. Here's the tough part of the conversation here. So we tried the BAKFlip. You're set on that style I hear, because of the finish and because you feel it's going to be a better finish. I can't agree or disagree. I've never heard of the flaking problems that you're having and I worked for them, you know, so I, I've never seen that personally. It might be something new on the MX4. MX4 is kind of a new cover. I wasn't around the whole time during that.

GMC Sierra Owner: It's just what I've saw on the Internet.

Sean: Right, but what I was going to say is, I can get you the credit on this one as soon as you give me those field destroy pictures. And then what I'd honestly like to get you into is the Undercover Armor Flex. Unfortunately, it's a little bit more money.

GMC Sierra Owner: Tell me about it. What's it's specs?

Sean: Okay, so what it is, it's going to be the same exact look as your BAKFlip. The only difference is, it's got a five-year warranty because it's got Linex on top of the cover. So the cover looks just like your BAKFlip, but it's got that Linex coating. So you could take a key to it and go back and forth on your cover, you're not going to scratch it. It's something new they started doing. Like I said, five-year warranty. It looks exactly the same. The only difference is whenever you fold it all the way up, it stands in the 90 degree angle instead of leaning against your cab. So it does tend to block that third brake light on some vehicles. I'm not sure if it will on the new Sierra, but that's the only difference between the Undercover and the BAKFlip product, are those three things. The warranty, the finish and the functionality.

GMC Sierra Owner: What causes it to not lean against the back window? Because that one comes just underneath it. I have a camera near the third light. It's a digital LED camera that's in there. That's how I see out my back window.

Sean: Right. Well here's a little bit of inside knowledge. So an Undercover historically made a one piece ABS Tonneau cover, okay? We obviously realize that industry is going towards the folding. So what did we do? We saw BAKFlip and we said, okay, we're going to start making that. So the leaning against the window is something that was either patented or something of that nature to where we couldn't do that. So that's why it stands at a 90 degree angle. It's held by prop rods, and they work flawlessly. Again, I don't know how often you drive with it all the way up, and they are really easy to remove if you know you're going to be driving with it all the way up, if that's going to be a a common occurrence for you.

GMC Sierra Owner: What stops it from leaning forward to try to hit the window if you break or take off?

Sean: Well, I mean they've got the prop rod on either sideand they're quick release prop rods, but they've got like a ball stud in the rail and then a ball stud on the cover itself.

GMC Sierra Owner: Okay. And it's still basically three folding pieces. And what's the weight that it holds?

Sean: The weight on that one I believe is going to be the same as BAKFlip. They don't actually mention it here on their website unfortunately, but I believe it is four to 500 pounds evenly distributed, of course.

GMC Sierra Owner: Okay. And it says that it fits my truck and install the same way without me having to drill holes in my truck?

Sean: Yes sir.

GMC Sierra Owner: Okay, well I'll give it a try.

Does the Undercover Armor Flex Have the Rail System on it for a 2018 Toyota Tundra Crew Max With the Short Bed?

Toyota Tundra Owner: My name's Ruben I was calling to get some info on a Tonneau cover.

Shawn: What kind of Tonneau cover you looking at?

Toyota Tundra Owner: I'm looking at the Undercover Armor Flex. Does it have the rail system on it?

Shawn: What kind of truck do you have?

Toyota Tundra Owner: On my truck, it's for a 2018 Tundra Crew Max with the short bed.

Shawn: Those sometimes are a little bit more because of how they have to mount on that rail system. It's an extra kit that goes with it, so let me see what they say here. With deck rail system. You know what? Undercover's actually different, they don't charge you more.

Toyota Tundra Owner: Now do you, what's your sale because I got an email saying that you guys having a sale or something?

Shawn: Yeah the email quote I sent you is actually our new sales price because the prices of everything went up April first, but it's still lower than full retail.

Toyota Tundra Owner: Do you guys match prices, do you have it in stock and do you match prices? Or beat prices?

Shawn: Yes we can typically price match if you can show me proof of pricing elsewhere. But generally we are the lowest you will find.

Toyota Tundra Owner: Oh. Alright man, thank you for your time. I'm going to keep looking around, but I'll probably call you back if you have the lowest prices.

Shawn: You got it, have a good day my friend.

How Do I Get Replacement Clips for My Undercover Ultra Flex?

Tonneau Covered Customer: Hey, I just received the Tonneau Cover I ordered and when I talked to you last week you said to just unbox everything before I started assembling it just to make sure everything's in good condition.

Peter: Right.

Tonneau Covered Customer: The box is kind of in a little rough shape but everything seemed to be okay except for two things. Those are those little clips, little plastic clips that hold the support rods. What I ordered was the Undercover Flex for the Ultra Flex. And they got the little support clips that hold those rods. And they were plastic and they were just broke off.

Peter: Oh. Okay. I am sorry about that. That happens every once in a while. I'm going to give you a Undercover's phone number because that's the quickest way to get this resolved. They'll literally rush them out to you. I think they even overnight them in some cases.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Yeah, go ahead and give me Undercover's phone number. Thanks.

Peter: It's 866-900-8800.

Tonneau Covered Customer: Is there anything registration or anything, or they need to see an order number or anything on that? Or what?

Peter: I doubt it. Because you just bought it. Let me see. I'll just resend the confirmation real quick, but I doubt they'll ask for it with something like this but I just resent it just in case.
