Does Extang or BAK Have the Best Tonneau Cover for a 2018 Ford F-150?

Ford F-150 Owner: I went and looked at that Extang. So, that one doesn't fold up all three sections, right? It just unfolds the back two, so it doesn't flip up against the back window?

Sean: Correct. So, if you plan on driving with it open very often, you can't do it. But, the good part about the Extang, I don't know if you looked at the install video, there's no rails. It just literally clamps on to the sides of your bed, so you can have thing off there in three minutes.

Ford F-150 Owner: Okay. What about the MX4, does that one come off fairly easy or no?

Sean: Yeah, they both come off fairly easy. The MX4, you probably wouldn't need to take it off. But, let's assume that you do, all you have to do is just lift the cover towards leaning up against the cab, and then reach your hand underneath and loosen the star knob that's underneath, and the elevator bolt that goes through the top of the cover will pop right out, and then the whole cover just lifts right off the rails. The covers are held on to the rails at the front with a bracket. The elevator bolt goes through the left and right side, and then star knobs tighten it down. So, it's an easy as removing those and it pop right off.

Ford F-150 Owner: Okay. But on the Extang do you think it's better as far as water resistance?

Sean: If you install it properly it does a pretty good job. With the MX4 you get the drain tubes for the bed of your truck. So, that means either using an existing hole in the very front. Older trucks used to have the black plastic piece, I'm not sure on the newer trucks. But, you just pop one of those out, or you drill small hole through there. Or you can actually drill it through the bed of your truck. But, a lot less people want to do that.

Ford F-150 Owner: Yeah. I wouldn't want to drill in the bed of my truck either.

Sean: Right. I get it. But, in order to keep that water out, they do design them to where the water is supposed to go to the channels in the rails, which pushes it through the drain tubes, and out of the bed.

Ford F-150 Owner: Right. That's cool. I think maybe I'll stick with that MX4. Is the only difference between the MX4 and the G2 that one has 4 segments and the other has 3?

Sean: No, the G2 and the MX4 are night and day. The G2 is going to be the shiny finish. The panels aren't as thick, so they're not as dent proof. Its only rated for 300 pounds, while the MX4 is 400. The MX4 has a dual-action tailgate seal. You can open and close the tailgate without having to open the last handle of the cover. So, yeah, I could go on and on. The MX4 is far better.

Ford F-150 Owner: Okay. That's all I needed to know. Okay, let me verify my bed length so I don't order this thing and find out how I was wrong.

Sean: Yeah you don't want to shoot yourself in the foot.

Ford F-150 Owner: One of the reviews said you guys offer a tailgate seal kit?

Sean: Yeah, I'll send you a tailgate seal. What was the truck again?

Ford F-150 Owner: Its a 2018 Ford F-150.

Sean: Okay.

Ford F-150 Owner: So when I measure my bed, am I supposed to just measure the inside dimensions from the inside of the bed to the inside of the tailgate?

Sean: Yeah, inside of the bowl and inside the tailgate, so the very front of your bed. And if it's the big crew, you know, with the full four doors, it could be a 5.7

Ford F-150 Owner: Yep. That's what I got. Well then let's go ahead and get the MX4 ordered.

Sean: Okay I'll go ahead and get this shipped out. We should be good to go!

Ford F-150 Owner: Cool. Okay. Sounds good.

Can I Install the BAKFlip G2 By Myself on a 2018 Ford F-150?

F-150 Owner: Hi, I'm following up on an email that we've been going back and forth with for a couple of weeks. The BAKFlip G2 I just want to make sure that the offer you got me a week or so ago is still good.

Peter: Okay, let me take a look. What truck is it for?

F-150 Owner: It's a 2018 Ford F-150 with a 5 and a half foot bed.

Peter: Okay. So, I've got the G2 in stock, and I can honor the offer I quoted you. It's free shipping and there's no sales tax.

F-150 Owner: Okay. So if we order that today, about mid-week next week is when that would come in?

Peter: Or towards the end. Yes.

F-150 Owner: And then, one of the things that y'all were doing last week was a tailgate seal kit for that.

Peter: Right. I can include that as well.

F-150 Owner: I had sent in a question last week, kind of a follow up. Because I've been shopping for months. And I noticed that on some sites, they talk about a 5'5 bed, which is what I believe I have, because that's what's on the paperwork. And then some talk about a 5'7 bed.

Peter: Right.

F-150 Owner: So, are those actually two different lengths? Or is that just a difference in the way you measure?

Peter: No, there's only one size bed for the short bed. Some people just call it a different length. But I know exactly which one that is. So, the fitment will be perfect.

F-150 Owner: Okay. Can I install this tonneau cover all by myself?

Peter: Yep, this is a piece of cake. Just take your time. You know, just get everything out. You just get the rails clamped on, get the cover in their, and install the drain tubes. It's pretty straightforward.

F-150 Owner: Okay. All right. It looks like it. It looks like it. All right, well, if you'll send that link to me, and then I can give you a credit card number over the internet, or secure email.

Peter: Yeah. I just sent it, so if you don't see it shortly, just check your spam.

Robert: Okay. Very good.

Should I Pick a BAK or EXTANG Tonneau Cover for a 2018 Ford F150?

F-150 Owner: I was calling in and looking into a tonneau cover.

Shawn: What kind of tonneau cover are you looking at?

F-150 Owner: Well I was looking at that BAKFlip, the four segment one. Forgot what it was called. The matte black one.

Shawn: Okay, what kind of truck do you have?

F-150 Owner: I have a 2018 Ford F150. 5 foot 7 bed.

Shawn: Did you want to go ahead and place an order with me today on it?

F-150 Owner: Well, I was kind of looking. You guys have an elephant or one listed that you guys have just come out with?

Shawn: You know it didn't last very long.

F-150 Owner: Got you. Okay, yeah, because I was kind of poking around. The BAKFlips are, every review I looked at, the BAKFlip was up there, but I kept reading that they leak. And I was wondering if there's another one out there that would be comparable that doesn't leak or is that just inherent in that style.

Shawn: Well to prevent leaking you have to have the tonneau cover installed correctly and have all the seals laying like they should. You also will have the drain tubes. Just don't expect there to be no water whatsoever because it's not weather proof, it's weather resistant. If you wan't something that will stay drier, you're going to have to go with on top of the rails and I would suggest the extang that's Extang Solid Fold 2.0. It sits on top of the rails.

F-150 Owner: Okay. Well, that sounds good. Let me keep looking around at some other tonneau covers

Shawn: Alright man, check that out. Look at that solid fold. They are both really popular, they're owned by the same company. Kind of got to go with what you want in look and then what you want in functionality. That's just the honest opinion I have for you on those two.

F-150 Owner: You just said that. Okay, let me take a look at them and I'll give you a holler back.

How is the Undercover Flex Compared to the G2?

Ford F150 Owner: I hear this is the place to buy a tonneau cover for my pickup

Tonneau Covered Agent: Yes. What are you looking for?

Ford F150 Owner: I have a Ford F150 2014 Eco Boost. I need some advice too. I'm a painting contractor, and I've been looking at the hard covers, and I want a fold up cover I think.

Tonneau Covered Agent: Okay. No problem.

Ford F150 Owner: What would you recommend? I think a roll up cover would be convenient, but I don't know if it would last as long, would it?

Tonneau Covered Agent: The hard folding covers you can get several years out of. The BAKFlips are the most popular. They're trifolds but they can fold completely up out of the bed and secure behind the cab so that you have full bed access. Those are the best reviewed, and they also sit flush inside the bed rail and have that really low profile look to them. It starts with the BAKFlip G2; it's made of aluminum and it's been around for a long time. It's free shipping and there's no sales tax if you're ordering from outside of Arizona.

Ford F150 Owner: What about the Gator EVO? That's a five-fold. Is that cheaper?

Tonneau Covered Agent: I'm not sure. We don't sell Gator so I can't really speak to that. That's one of the only brands we don't sell.

Ford F150 Owner: How is the Undercover Flex compared to the G2?

Tonneau Covered Agent: That's almost an identical cover, except it's made of a different material. It's made of a fiberglass reinforced polymer, so it's actually going to be a little bit stronger than that aluminum of the G2. It'll stand up to denting and stuff like that much better.

Ford F150 Owner: Now when I was looking on the website it said one of them, I can't remember which one, had a free gift of the swing case, is that still going?

Tonneau Covered Agent: Yeah, that was a rebate that ended, and it was with a different cover. And then they had one with the flex, but that ended.

Ford F150 Owner: Now, the G2 and the Undercover that we're talking about, do I need to put ladder racks on it or not? I was looking at ladder racks and I don't want to put a bolt on one and I don't want to be removing it, so they would work with one that would fit on the edge of the rail, right?

Tonneau Covered Agent: Yeah. So BAK actually makes two. The BAKFlip CS or the BAKFlip CSF1. The CS is the G2 cover with the ladder rack assembly as well. Then the CSF1 is the F1 cover with the ladder racks, so that's a good option too.

Ford F150 Owner: Now, do you guys sell the ladder racks as well?

Tonneau Covered Agent: Yeah, it's a whole unit. So it all comes together.

Ford F150 Owner: Now, if I was to get just the cover I could get a different rack system, right?

Tonneau Covered Agent: You could, yes. And because the BAKFlip cover and the undercover sits inside the bed rails, your stake pockets are still exposed so you can install the ladder rack in the stake pockets.

Ford F150 Owner: Right, stake pockets, yeah. Now, what kind of weight can they carry? I'd only be carrying the ladder, no lumber. What poundage do they rate for?

Tonneau Covered Agent: It just depends on which rack. 500 pounds on the back ones, but there are many different types of racks out there.

Ford F150 Owner: Right. So I guess I'm looking between the Undercover and the G2. Is there any one that you could give me a better deal on either of them? Because they're both basically the same, right?

Tonneau Covered Agent: Yeah. Those are both at my lowest prices. In fact, those are sale prices. I can't go lower than that, unfortunately, but I do believe I do have the best price anywhere for both of those covers.

Ford F150 Owner: Yeah. I had been looking, those are pretty good prices. Alright, I'm going to go with the BAKFlip G2.

Tonneau Covered Agent: The G2? Good choice. Please allow about five to seven days for delivery on this. You're going to get an email confirmation here in just a second.

Ford F150 Owner: Now, they'll leave it obviously, right? At the front door?

Tonneau Covered Agent: Yes. It's going to be FedEx.

Ford F150 Owner: All right, awesome. Thank you so much.

What's the Best Hard & Soft Tonneau Cover for a 2001 Ford F150 with an Extended Cab?

Ford F150 Owner: I was just calling about a tonneau cover, just to see what kinds you offer.

Peter: Okay. What truck is it for?

Ford F150 Owner: It's a 2001 Ford F150. It's an extended cab model.

Peter: Okay. And what type cover are you looking at?

Ford F150 Owner: I was kind of inquiring about a hardtop cover, the folding type.

Peter: We do, yeah. My least expensive hard folding cover is going to be the BAKFlip G2. It's free shipping and no sales tax if you're outside of Arizona.

Ford F150 Owner: Okay, so the G2 is the least expensive hard cover, you say?

Peter: It is.

Ford F150 Owner: Okay. Now what is the most popular tonneau cover that you all pretty much really sell?

Peter: That's one of them.

Ford F150 Owner: Okay. Is the BAKFlip G2 somewhere on the site? That way I can look at it and see how it looks?

Peter: Yeah, it's on the website.

Ford F150 Owner: And the website is tonneaucovered.com, right?

Peter: That's right.

Ford F150 Owner: What is the next grade under a hardtop? Do you have a soft hard top?

Peter: We have a soft folding cover by Extang.

Ford F150 Owner: Yeah. How is that cover?

Peter: It's pretty good.

Ford F150 Owner: Is that Extang cover durable as well?

Peter: It is.

Ford F150 Owner: And what warranty do these covers come with?

Peter: The hard is two years, and the soft is actually a lifetime.

Ford F150 Owner: And the soft cover, now what is that one called? I'm going to take a look at that one, too.

Peter: Yeah. That's called the Extang Trifecta 2.0.

Ford F150 Owner: Now is this Trifecta dual bolt, just like the BAKFlip one? Like leak-wise and durable?

Peter: Yes.

Ford F150 Owner: Well, let me take a look at these different covers on your website then, and then I will go from there. I'll definitely be calling you back.

Peter: Sounds good

Is the BAKFlip G2 a Good Option for a 2016 Ford F150 With a 5'7 bed?

F150 Owner: I wanted to order that BAKFlip G2.

Peter: Got it. What truck is it for?

F150 Owner: It's a 2016 Ford F150, 5'7 bed.

Peter: I'll get you going here.

F150 Owner: I have a question. Does that BAKFlip lock?

Peter: Yes, when your tailgate is locked the cover is locked.

F150 Owner: Okay, all right. I know when we talked last week you were going to include a tailgate seal, the whatever it's called, the drip piece for the tailgate?

Peter: Yes, that's right. Your order will include a free tailgate seal and free shipping. Allow about five to seven days for delivery.

F150 Owner: It's pretty simple to install?

Peter: Yes. Piece of cake, 30 minutes or less.

F150 Owner: No cutting, nothing like that?

Peter: That's right.

F150 Owner: All Peter. Thanks a million man.

Peter: Thank you. Have a great day.
