Exciting (Affordable) Ways to Celebrate 4th of July
This year the 4th of July falls right in the middle of the week, which for most means no long weekend. However, a break in the middle of the week isn’t all that bad either. You can still fill your day with friends, family, and fun! You don’t even have to spend a fortune to do it.
TonneauCovered.com is all about savings, so we compiled a list full of great ideas on how you can make the most of your 4th of July without offending your wallet.
Organize a Block Party
Bring the neighbors together with an organized event. Request that everyone bring a dish for the ultimate pot luck, so everyone can enjoy variety without breaking the bank. Enjoy good food and great company! You can even plan some games for everyone to play. If fireworks can’t be seen from where you’re at then you can bust out the sparklers when the sun sets and celebrate in your own way.
Speaking of food and events, if a larger crowd isn’t your cup of tea, then just limit the guest list to family only. Fire up the grill and impress them with your excellent cooking skills.
A quick search online can direct you to the best fireworks in your area. Pack a cooler or small picnic and head out a little early to secure the best spot. Spend quality time with your family and enjoy the free show!
4th of July Parade
Does your town host a parade for the 4th? Take advantage! Dress up in your patriotic best and spend a fun filled day with family and friends. The best thing about early parades is that they end early, leaving you plenty of time to still catch the firework shows!
Get a fun group together and head to the park for some friendly competition in the form of softball, kickball, baseball, or volleyball. If relaxation is higher on your agenda then you could always opt for grabbing some tickets to a game at your local ballpark!
No matter what you choose, the 4th of July is about spending time with loved ones. Hopefully these ideas help you save a couple bucks! Also, if you’re in the market for any car or truck accessories give us a call, so we can help you save on those too. We hope you have a fun, safe 4th of July!

Tonneau Cover Maintenance
Tips for Proper Tonneau Cover Care
When you invest in any product you have every right to expect top performance. This is especially true when it comes to tonneau covers since they are a big part of your truck’s protection, security, and style. Unfortunately, a brand new tonneau cover can’t take care of itself, so it’s up to you to make sure you take all the necessary steps to keep it in tip top shape for years to come.
While a tonneau cover is built to last, there are some things that you can do your end to keep it looking good and fully functioning long-term. Here are some tips on tricks on giving your tonneau cover the care it deserves.
Inspect Your Cover Once a Week
At least one a week make sure you physically inspect the cover. Be on the lookout for any scratches, dings, or nicks as these are bound to happen when you’re out on the road. Identifying these things can help you take preventative measures and/or make small repairs before they get worse.
Double Check the Installation
You may think that once a cover is installed it’s good to go. While in a perfect world that would be nice, you still want to double check the installation during your weekly inspection. It’s important to note if the bolts and clamps are secure. If anything shifts while in motion then you could risk potential damage to the mounting hardware, the cover itself, or even your truck.
Check the Cover’s Operation Often
Any time you open or close the cover make sure that it opens smoothly without resistance and closes securely. If there is resistance or any other issue, then you will want to investigate further. Sometimes lubrication of the rails is required to help keep everything working properly.
A Clean Cover is a Happy Cover
While it’s not expected to wash and wax your truck every single day, it never hurts to clean your cover when you get the chance. You can use recommended vinyl cleaners, but mild soap and water does the job just fine. Keep your cover clean and free of debris and you can extend it’s life tremendously.
Watch the Weight on Your Cover
This tip is pretty self-explanatory. Keeping heavy items on top of your cover can cause it to warp over time, or even sag. Put a reasonable time limit on any items you need to temporarily place on top of the cover.
Have Questions or Concerns?
If you are still unsure on how to properly care for your tonneau cover, or if something just doesn’t seem right, never hesitate to call the manufacturer with questions. Most things outside of normal wear and tear may be covered under warranty.

How to Pick the Perfect Tonneau Cover
One of the best accessories you can add to your truck is a tonneau cover. Purchasing a tonneau cover includes the added benefits of improved security, top notch weather protection, increased gas mileage, and of course a sleek style overall. However, with so many options to choose from, how do you possibly pick a cover that’s right for you and your truck? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!
Leaving your truck bed open means direct exposure to the elements. Risks can include moisture-damaged or corroded cargo, especially in rainy/snowy seasons. If items are not properly secured then they can shift, or worse, fly out of the truck bed in transit. Also, summer days can lead to fading and sun damage to items left in your bed long term.
You can find some protection with any tonneau cover on the market but selecting a cover specific to the weather conditions that you’re most likely to encounter will provide the best experience. If keeping your cargo dry is top priority, then selecting a tonneau cover with premium weather seals is the best path to take. Additionally, some covers even include drainage systems.
Just adding a basic tonneau cover can be a deterrent to anyone considering rifling through your truck bed, but if you plan to store anything of value, then security should be a concern. If that’s the case, then a hard cover with a lock is worth investing in. Keep in mind that a soft cover can be sliced open.
Tonneau covers also help reduce your truck’s aerodynamic drag, which in turn saves on fuel. It’s a win win!
There are some other questions you will want to ask yourself as well. Do you need full access to your truck bed, and if so how often? Do you tend to carry cargo that stands taller than your bed rails? Answering these important questions can ultimately help you determine which cover is right for you and your truck.
The Roll Up Tonneau Cover
Soft Roll-Up Covers
Regular access to your truck bed is made easy with a roll-up tonneau cover. It opens at the rear and can be partially rolled up and secured. Otherwise, it can be left completely open, sitting right behind the cab. If the cover is left closed then it can be secured on the bed rails using Velcro, snaps, or seals.
There are many wonderful brands that offer quality roll up covers. One of our favorites is the Truxedo Lo Pro QT. If you’re also in need of a rack, the the DeeZee Invis-A-Rack pairs beautifully with it.
Already have a toolbox? No problem! We also sell covers that are designed to accommodate it.

Hard Roll-Up Covers
Hard Roll-Up Covers are also offered. The notable attribute of these covers is a soft vinyl layer covering a wall of individual slats which, in the closed position, line up and lock into place. This constructs a hardshell which can, in some cases, support up to 400lbs. Hard roll-up covers are strong enough to act as a barrier to keep items in place, so if you transport cargo with a tendency to shift then this cover is ideal for you.
Pricing may be higher, but the added expense is worth it for the extra protection. We recommend the Truxedo Titanium Hard Rolling Tonneau Cover or the BAK Revolver X2 Rolling Tonneau Cover. However, just like the soft roll-up, there are many great options available.
The Retractable Tonneau Cover
Retractable tonneau covers can provide a barrier (much like the hard roll-up) with aluminum slats. However, the retractable cover rolls up into a canister at the front of the bed rather than rolling on top of itself.
One of the highlighted features of a retractable cover is its ability to provide complete, water resistant, locking bed security. The canister is concealed since it is mounted beneath the level of the cover. One drawback is that it may prevent you from carrying items that extend to the front of the bed.
Power operated retractable covers are the way to go in our opinion. Retrax brings you the ultimate luxury of controlling the retraction with a remote. PowertraxPRO MX features aluminum slats and a black matte powder coat finish while the PowertraxPRO has aluminum slats and gloss black powder coat. Additionally, the PowertraxONE comes with polycarbonate plastic slats and gloss black finish.
Truck Cover USA’s American Roll Retractable Tonneau Cover has aluminum slats finished in a black powder coat if something low-profile is more your taste.
Roll-N-Lock’s A-Series leaves your stake pockets free so you can install a rack, and the M-Series is available if you prefer a smooth sheet of vinyl over the aluminum slats for more style.
If you prefer a low-profile retractable cover, we've got the Truck Covers USA American Roll Retractable Tonneau Cover featuring aluminum slats finished in black powder coat.
The Folding Tonneau Cover
Soft Folding Tonneau Covers
The benefits of a soft folding cover include light weight, a smooth looking uniform look, and reinforcement provided by the framework beneath. This cover tends to sit right on top of the rails, which hides panel gaps and seams, so one of the main reasons people choose this cover is for the sleek look it provides. The vinyl folds along with the panel sections.
A great soft folding cover is Extang's E-Max Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover which allows the sections to fold up instead of down into the bed area.
For low-profile Extang also offers the Trifecta Signature 2.0 Tri-Fold. This cover is designed for easy install (it takes about 5 minutes). This is great news if you find the need to remove your tonneau cover for any reason.
Hard Folding Covers
You can also purchase a folding tonneau covers in a “hard” version instead, with panels that are solid.. These covers usually fold up into three or four sections and sit just behind the cab area when folded. They can also usually support a load of 250-400 pounds (evenly distributed) on top.
Our low-profile recommendations include the BAK BakFlip F1, the BAK BakFlip G2, and most importantly the UnderCover Ultra Flex.
The Tool Box Tonneau Cover
If you already have a toolbox or are interested in getting one, the good news is that you don’t have to forfeit the benefits of a tonneau cover. Toolbox tonneau covers are designed specifically to accommodate standard size toolboxes. They also can be found in folding and roll-up options.
BAK has also designed the BakBox 2 Folding Tool Box, which is meant to conceal itself when used with BAK's BakFlip folding hard tonneau cover or their RollBak retractable tonneau cover.
If you’re in need of a tool box and/or a cover then we can help upgrade your truck with both!
Most importantly, we know that no matter which tonneau cover suits your needs, your budget needs to be kept in mind. Our agents are specially trained to help you find the best cover for you and your truck while making sure that they stay within your price range. A lower price doesn’t mean lower quality by any means, but depending on your needs certain features may be worth investing in.

Fun Ways to Spend Summer (with Your Bad Ass Truck)
With warmer weather on its way (finally) it’s time to start thinking about how you want to spend your summer. This is the best time of year to try new things, take a vacation, or even just make time to check out some local camping spots in your own home town. Here are some ideas on how to make the most of your summer (while driving your bad ass truck)!
Camping is one of the best getaways! You can bypass hotel costs and expensive dinners out since you’re bringing everything you need along with you. As an added bonus, you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and spend some quality time with friends and family while you unwind. With all the money you will be saving you can treat yourself to a tonneau cover and safely secure your camping gear to make for a much smoother trip.
Go to the Beach
Pick a place (or two) and drive! There’s something about a long summer trek that sparks the feeling of adventure. You can choose one destination or make multiple stops and see different sights. During your long drive on foreign roads you might kick up rocks and debris, so fender flares would be a wise addition to your truck. Travel with protection and style!
Start a New Project
Have you been meaning to do some remodeling or landscaping at the house? It’s easy to put things off when you’re busy with other things in life, but this summer make a promise to yourself to build that garden in the backyard, paint that room where you can’t stand the color, or clean out the garage and head to the dump to rid yourself of all the clutter. While a tonneau cover may come in handy for hauling things back and forth, a Bedrug is going to make things even easier. A Bedrug can help prevent dings in your truck bed and provide traction so your project supplies don’t slide around as much.
